What Type of Salmon to Buy for These Salmon Patties with Dill Sauce

If you can, it’s worth it to purchase a quality canned salmon to make these salmon patties. Since it’s the main ingredient, it definitely tastes better when you have a good canned salmon! My personal favorite brands are Wild Planet and Safe Catch, which is a great brand to get if you're concerned about mercury.

Speaking of mercury, if that’s something you’re concerned about, which you may be if you’re pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, canned salmon is a great choice compared to canned tuna, which can be higher in mercury. Most canned salmon is wild too, meaning it’s higher in omega-3 fats.

I also like to purchase canned salmon that has the small bones in it, as it’s a great way to increase intake of calcium and vitamin D. It might sound ick, but you really can’t taste the small bones, which soften with canning!
