We believe that eating is about
more than just food
Eating is a vital act of self care. Yes, it’s how we provide our body with the energy and nutrients it needs to function, but it is so much more than that. Eating is a way we connect with others, through family meals, dinners out with friends, and gifts of homemade soup and casserole to community members going through a hard time. Through food we are able to celebrate and honor our cultural background, and that of others. As human beings, we are biologically hardwired to seek pleasure in eating. It’s for these reasons, and so many more that we know good nutrition can’t be found in a list of what you supposedly should and shouldn’t eat.
Our goal is to help your nourish a healthier relationship with food, and learn to treat your body with kindness and respect instead of punishing it with rigid diets and deprivation. We want to help you clear the confusing clutter of diet rules and misinformation from your brain, so you can create space to connect with your own internal wisdom. We hope that our work helps you learn to eat and care for your body in a way that fuels a more fulfilling, connected, and joyful life.
We believe:
For all the back and forth you hear about ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods and complicated diets that require a graphing calculator to stick to, good nutrition is actually quite simple. Our goal is to help you recognize that nourishing your body with satisfying and nutritious foods can be an easy part of your life, while still enjoying foods that are meant simply for pleasure.
Eating well shouldn’t leave you feeling hungry or deprived. The most important aspect of nutrition is whether you are eating enough. Satisfaction and pleasure from eating delicious foods can and should be goals of healthy eating.
Bodies exist naturally in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Rather than fighting nature and micromanaging the scale, we will work on building behaviors and beliefs that support your health and wellbeing. No matter your size, your body is worthy of being cared for and respected as it is today.
At Rachael Hartley Nutrition, you’re in the driver’s seat. Individual nutrition needs vary from person to person. Each person is made of their own unique combination of biology and psychology. We’re here to support you in discovering your needs and what foods make you feel good.
